Board Room Table

In tandem with the workspace dividers for Apple, we designed a 20-person table for the board room of the new Culver City office. Similar to the dividers, the table is constructed of rift-sawn white oak, and prominently displays the end grain.

While the material remained the same, simply keeping the 90-degree edges would have made for a bulky-feeling table top that wouldn’t suit Apple’s identity. Though the table top remained robust to hold its own weight, we added a slight bevel to the perimeter to help it feel lighter.

Early on, we wanted to include outlets and imbed wireless charging into the table. However, we knew we needed to keep the natural beauty of the oak at the forefront of the design.

Employing inset invisible hinges and doors cut to match the surrounding grain, outlet panels are hidden along the center of the table with wires running up through the legs. Brass dots are placed at each seat, denoting wireless charging when a device is placed on top.
