Crate
Crate is a multi-use furniture concept that embraces elementary geometry and a straightforward color palette.
Crate was born in the early heat of the pandemic. Working from home for a design studio that specialized in custom office furniture while the whole workforce moved remote, my mind was restless. “Will offices come back?” “Are conference tables overnight relics?” “Do living room couches need those folding arm desks like the seats in college auditoriums?” “Can a bed function as an office, kitchen, and entertainment center at the same time?”
So I designed a box,
and in that box I found childlike joy.
I found a building block so fundamental a 6-year-old could draw it. I found a base for coffee tables, desks, and ottomans. I found a hamper, bookcase, credenza, camp tote, and stool.
Constructed from Baltic birch plywood with hidden spline miter joints, the boxes are robust and durable. Each crate can hold about 60 vinyl records, 16 wine bottles, or 1 really heavy blanket.
Crate is a clean solution for a messy world. It belongs in offices, dorm rooms, and play rooms alike.
